DMT was founded in 1976 by Elizabeth (former college professor) and David (former aeronautical engineer) Powell. Their entrepreneurial success story began in Hudson, Massachusetts on the third floor of an old mill where they first developed and produced diamond saw blades used for cutting blocks of granite. With a 1978 change in U.S. foreign policy, America released a significant part of the stockpile of industrial diamonds to Israel, causing world prices to plummet and DMT sales to plunge to near zero. Faced with the need to diversify, and putting their Yankee ingenuity to the test, the Powell¡¯s ¡°Eureka moment¡± came from a rather unlikely discovery.
