Electric spark dressing effects on the performance of metal-bond diamond grinding wheels

Abstract The influence of the working parameters of electric spark dressing on the surface quality of diamond wheels is investigated. The results show that, high peak current and large pulse width can contribute to high exposure height of diamond grits. However, electric spark dressing could lead a negative effect to the hardness and bending strength of the matrix by about 20%. For the reason, the combination dressing technology is suggested and examined experimentally, which shows that the grinding performance of the dressed diamond wheels could be enhanced.
