According to Mining Weekly, South African trade unions involved in the South African gold miners’ wage negotiations have accepted the Chamber of Mines’ (CoM’s) request for an extension, after little progress was made in Monday’s deliberations.
Solidarity spokesperson Reint Dykema announced that the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration’s facilitators will now negotiate with the CoM regarding a better offer.
A task team, which will work simultaneously with the negotiations, is scheduled to meet tomorrow to discuss issues related to the negotiations.
General Secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) Frans Baleni stated that if gold mining firms resolved some of these issues, this could enable the introduction of revised offers.
