A travelling diamond dealer, who was staying at the Orchard Park Hotel in Giffnock near Glasgow, was robbed of £100,000 worth of fine jewelry in the hotel’s parking lot.
The Jewish diamond trader was ambushed by the thieves while walking to his car after leaving the hotel at 7:15 am.
The jeweler was attacked from behind by one of the thieves who beat him to the ground while the other attacker used a beer keg to smash the window of the diamond jeweler’s vehicle. The pair grabbed a bag containing fine jewelry and fled from the scene in a getaway car.
The Sun quotes a spokesman for the Strathclyde Police: “The jewelry salesman was walking to his car when he was approached by two men who forced him to the ground and stole his bag. It contained jewelry worth a six-figure sum.”
Scotland’s largest Jewish population is located in the area of the Orchard Park Hotel, which it is popular among traveling businessmen.
The Sun reports that the hotel was once a maternity home and it is where British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was born.
Both suspects are white males, aged 45-55, and of a medium build. The police, who are conducting an ongoing investigation, appealed to the public for information.
