Vice Minister of Commerce Yi Xiaozhun recently said that although affected by the financial crisis, China did not lost its advantages in foreign trade; once china's economy recovered, its foreign trade would be higher than the global level.
Yi Xiaozhun said in sub-forum "Promoting Trade Liberalization and Investment Facilitation" of Global Think Tank Summit that although China's foreign trade did not increase as in previous years, its advantage would not lose on implementing policies to stimulate domestic demand.
He said that currently trade protectionism began to rear its head. Last year, 40% of global anti-dumping and 70% of countervailing were against China. From January to April this year, a total of 13 countries and regions initiated 38 investigations of "two objection and two protection" to China, and the number of cases increased by 26.7% year-on-year. "All the countries should firmly prevent the introduction of policies on trade protectionism," he said.
Yi Xiaozhun believed that the successful conclusion of the Doha Round negotiations was powerful measure to revive the world economy and deal with the trade protectionism. Doha Round negotiations had already lasted for nearly eight years, during which 80% of the contents currently reached an agreement, not far away from the final agreement.
Yi Xiaozhun also said that China had been adhering to the diversified strategy in trade and exports, and had made great achievements. The bilateral trade volumes between China& Africa, China & Middle East, China & Central Asia and China & Latin America had increased a lot.
