The International Gemological Institute (IGI) has announced plans to expand its gemological laboratory in the Ramat Gan diamond trade center. The IGI has explained that the expansion is due to an increased demand for diamond grading services.
IGI Israel's original offices have now been expanded into a 3,500-square-foot workspace. The gemological laboratory’s premises will continue to be housed in the Yahalom Building.
IGI CEO Roland Lorie stated: "We know the current economic situation is difficult and, more than ever, Israel needs a major laboratory to support efficient and successful trades within the industry. We look forward to providing the area with better and faster gemological services in our new space."
The IGI has had a strong presence in the Israeli jewelry industry for over eight years through its Diamond Window Service. Due to the fact that Israel is one of the three largest diamond wholesale markets in the world, the IGI decided to open the full-service gem-testing laboratory in Ramat Gan.
IGI Israel has also announced plans to establish a gemological school in Israel, which will afford the Israeli diamond and gemstone industry with the opportunity to earn an IGI diploma in gemology.
