The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) has issued a warning to diamond dealers regarding fake treated diamond and gemstone certifications. These certificates include pseudo-documents supposedly issued by the diamond laboratories GIA and EGL in South Africa.
The WFDB’s warning was published following a special announcement by the Chairperson of the Diamond Dealers Club in South Africa. The fake certificates state that the diamonds were supposedly examined by the gemological laboratories GIA and EGL in South Africa. Despite what is stated, the diamonds are HPHT-treated.
In the announcement, the chairperson of the Diamond Dealers Club recommends to those who have purchased diamonds and doubt the authenticity of the attached certifications, to have the diamonds reexamined by an authorized gemological laboratory. Also, anyone who happens to come across a false diamond certificate is asked to inform the secretariat of the Diamond Dealers Club.
Members of Diamond Bourses affiliated to the Federation are also asked to help locate Asher Mesilati, ID #6209305112188, whose last known address was Glen Manor 406, Northfield, Pretoria. Mesilati may be able to aid the investigation of such false diamond grading certifications.
