Mining giant Rio Tinto has launched a new collection of jewelry that is being touted as ecologically sustainable. The collection, a pilot project for the company that was unveiled for the first time at the JCK Luxury show in Las Vegas, is called 'Nature's Beauty'.
The Nature's Beauty jewelry, which includes cufflinks, necklaces, rings and earrings, uses both white and champagne polished diamonds from the Argyle mine in Australia, owned and operated by Rio Tinto. At first, the collection will only be offered in the United States.
Rio Tinto chief commercial officer Jean-Marc Lieberherr said that modern consumers seek guarantees that the diamond jewelry that they purchase be manufactured according to strict guidelines that respect the rights of workers and human and non-human communities that are affected by their production. Notably, Rio Tinto is the only diamond miner that has received certification the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC).
