Tororo district environmental officer, John Gongo, has stopped stone quarrying in Tororo Municipality, saying the blasts were cracking buildings. He said the quarry was also a risk to people's lives because they could be hit by the stones.

Following the inspection that was carried out by my office, we have decided to stop the blasting for one month,?Gongo said. He added that the Tororo Cement Industry quarry managers had ignored conditions given by the National Environmental Management Authority and warned them of legal action.
