Abstract The effect of temperature on the sintering CBN compacts with Al as additive at the pressure of 5GPa has been studied in this paper. At the sintering condition, the hardness, density , microstructure and products' phase of CBN - Al compacts are compared. The experimental results have indicated that: the average hardness of cBN-Al compacts is about 30 GPa; the density increase with the sintering temperature; new phases such as AlN and AlB2 appeared during the HPHT sintering, the amount of AlN increase with the temperature, while the AlB2 is a transition phase.
