Photovoltaic solar power station - Mauritania inaugurates 15 MW photovoltaic power station.

A new 15 MW photovoltaic solar power station was officially inaugurated on Tuesday in Nouakchott, the Mauritanian capital, by the Mauritanian oil and energy minister, Taleb Ould Abdi Vall.

Of an overall cost of US$31 million, US$30 million of which was a donation from the crown prince of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Cheikh Mohamed Ben Zayed Al Nahyan, the new power station has 30,000 photovoltaic solar panels and several injection posts.

It is guaranteed to last 20 years at the end of which the facilities will be renewed, the electricity director, Dah Oul Sidi Bouna, said.

The power station is one of the most important ongoing projects in the area of renewable energy production and will contribute to the supply of clean energy to meet the needs of the Mauritanian capital.

The electricity deficit in Mauritania is currently estimated at one-third of needs.
