FT reported that Siemens has signed an agreement with engineering firm Sinclair Knight Merz Private Limited to provide conveyor systems for a project intending to help a mining conglomerate expand its iron port in the northwest region of Australia.

Siemens said that UK based mining and metals company Rio Tinto aims to increase its ore export volume by 123 million tonnes every year.

Rio Tinto will acquire 18 Pennsylvania-made GenIV Robicon Perfect Harmony drives, 18 China manufactured H-Compact, 1400 kW, 6.6V, 6 pole motors and eight Australia made Simotion control systems for its facilities at Cape Lambert in Pilbara, Australia.

Siemens will commission three conveyors in August and another five in 2014 while delivery is underway for the two phase project. The company will install the drives into the conveyors to carry iron ore from the stockyard to the loaders at the port.
