Chinese Urbanization Rate More than 45%

It was known by the reporter from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development that as of late 2008, Chinese urban population stood at 607 million, with the urbanization level of 45.68%, 35 percentage points more compared with the initial stage of the liberation, with the average annual growth of 0.95 percentage point.
Based on the introduction of Zhang Qin, deputy director of the Department of Urban-Rural Planning of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, at present, China has initially formed the multi-level urban system with large cities as central, small and medium-sized cities as backbone and small towns as basic in which large, medium and small-sized cities as well small towns develop coordinately. The linkage among cities and towns will be closer and the urban and town concentrated area is being formed.
