Taiwan's machine tool exports fell in June after seeing some improvement in the past two months, a local industry group said on Friday.
Amid global economic uncertainties, Taiwan's machine tool exports totaled US$310 million last month, down 3 percent from May, the Taichung-based Taiwan Machine Tool and Accessory Builders' Association said in a statement.
Citing preliminary government statistics, the association said it saw “instability” in the international economic system, with weak Chinese and European markets and slow recovery in the United States.
Taiwan's machine tool exports during the first half of 2013 amounted to US$1.72 billion, down 17.4 percent from the same period last year, the association noted. All major export markets declined over the first six months of the year.
Machine tool exports to China and Hong Kong, Taiwan's largest market, saw a 15.3 percent decline to US$600 million in the year to June 2013, the report showed.
Exports of machine tool products to the U.S. during the same period were also down approximately 21 percent, from US$249.59 million to US$197.18, it added.
Machine tool exports to Germany saw the sharpest decline, down 26.9 percent to US$48.26 million in the first half of 2013, from US$66.03 million in the same period last year, according to the report.
