Turkish crude steel output down by 3pct in H1

According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association, in June of the current year Turkish crude steel output fell slightly compared to May, amounting to 2.96 million tonnes constituting the second highest monthly volume this year after May.
In the first half of the year, Turkey's total crude steel production decreased by 2.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, falling to 17.4 million tonnes.
According to TCUD, Turkey's finished steel production increased by 1.9% in the first 5 months of the year, reaching 14.57 million tonnes influenced by the 89% YoY increase in the import of semi finished products in the first 5 months.
Meanwhile, in the 5 months in question long steel production in Turkey fell 1% YoY to 1.1 million tonnes. On the other hand, the rise in the production of flat steel products boosted Turkey's total finished steel production in the first 5 months.
During the January to May period, Turkey's total apparent steel consumption rose by 4.1% YoY to 7.12 million tonnes. Consumption of long products which are usually consumed by the construction sector increased by 3% YoY in January to May to 6.2 million tonnes.
Long steel products constituted 72% of Turkey's total steel production and 51.6% of its total steel consumption in the given period.
