Severstal Q2 crude steel output rises 5%

MOSCOW--Russia's largest steelmaker OAO Severstal said Tuesday its second-quarter total crude steel output rose 5% from the previous quarter to 4.03 million metric tons, as both its Russian and North American divisions ran at close to full capacity.
Crude steel production at Severstal's Russian mills in the second quarter stood at 2.75 million tons, up 3% from the prior quarter.
Crude steel production at Severstal's North America mills stood at 1.28 million tons, up 9% compared with the first quarter.
Total steel products sales volume rose 5% on the quarter to 3.88 million tons from 3.68 million tons.
Coking coal concentrate sales were down 2% on the year to 1.79 million tons from 1.83 million tons.
Severstal said prices for key steel products at its Russian unit were broadly flat or slightly down on the quarter. Prices for rolled products in North America decreased by 3% and prices for coking coal concentrate decreased 3%, mirroring market trends.
Severstal offered no forecasts for sales or output for the year or in the coming quarters.
