Electricity consumption in Macao up 2.2% in Q2

The consumption of electricity in Macao totaled 883 million kWh in the second quarter of 2009, an increase of 2.2 percent over last year, according to the figures released on Friday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
When compared with the previous quarter, the amount of electricity consumption surged by 32.7 percent in the second quarter, the DSEC figures indicated. Attributable to a 98.7 percent increase of imports of electricity, the available supply of electricity also went up by 31.1 percent quarter-to-quarter in the period.
Local imports of electricity reached 464 million kWh, bringing its relative importance to the available supply to soar from 33.5 percent in the first quarter to 50.7 percent in the second quarter. Meanwhile, local generation of electricity totaled 468 million kWh, down 2.4 percent quarter-to-quarter.
