Israeli emerald manufacturer Gemstar acquired a 2,000-carat emerald at an auction of rough emeralds and beryls from the Kagem mine in Zambia. Gemstar head Avraham Eshed did not reveal the price paid for the 2,000-plus-carat-piece he acquired.
Zambia's First Lady, Dr. Christine Kaseba, met with Eshed during a tour of the high-quality emerald auction. The auction featured a total of 583,448 carats of emeralds from the Kagem mine, with all lots reported sold.
