According to the Bank of Namibia, the country's rate of diamond production will falter during the present calendar year, but in the following year it is expected to make up that ground and increase past last year's rate, Diamond Intelligence reports. While 1.67 million carats of rough diamonds were produced in Namibia in 2012, by the end of 2013, the annual production figure will drop to 1.64 million carats. However, by 2014, the yearly diamond out of the country should once more increase, by 2.5%, due to the development of marine diamond deposits. Namibia is one of the top five diamond-producing countries in the world and is at the top of the list for water-borne diamonds.
The slight diamond industry slowdown in 2013 is commensurate with the over slowdown in the Namibian mining sector, which dipped 0.9% from 2012, according to Diamond Intelligence.
