Truing and dressing diamond and CBN wheels off-line is claimed to be easy and accurate with the improved features of the 3M's new E339VS machine which was introduced simultaneously at this year's IMTS show in Chicago and at the AMB-International show in Stuttgart, Germany. The addition of two pivot or swivel points on the truing head assembly, allows side-grinding of the work wheels in the pack without removal or disassembly - improving the grinding accuracy of multi-wheel pack.

Three swivel points also allow for more intricate geometries to be trued/dressed, whilst the newly designed truing head permits full radius dressing/truing on wheels as small as 75 mm (3 inches) in diameter. Previous models of off-line dressing equipment have generally not been designed to allow the truing head to fully access and radius smaller wheels. The new design extends the equipment capability to a larger range of wheel diameters.


The E339VS incorporates these new features, plus all the standard features of the original model E339V, including the more powerful motors on both the grinding and work heads for more efficient grinding of larger, heavier wheels. In addition, improved GenCAD 'active interface' software instantly updates the screen image as new data is keyed in.
The new E3339VS machine can be outfitted with a variety of other options, including angular digital readouts (+/- 6 minutes) and a variety of quick change mounting options to help optimize off-line truing operations.

At the Stuttgart and Chicago shows, 3M also featured its new line of superabrasive wheels and belts for use on a wide range of grinding machines.
