Coatings formulated using alkyd resins have been well established in the market for decades.
The main application fields for these systems are architectural coatings. Modern challenges and regulations have required traditional alkyd coatings to undergo a renovation.
Despite reductions in solvent content, using high-solids and ultra high-solids, as well as the elimination of lead and cobalt dryers, alkyd coatings maintain their popularity.
Surface scratches (e.g. on doors and windows) are undesirable, but protecting modern alkyd coatings from these scratches is achievable with BYK's new easy-to-use nanotechnology solution. NANOBYK-3630 provides excellent scratch resistance, high gloss, and transparency at the same time.
No influence on drying time or system hardness was observed when using the additive. The usage of NANOBYK-3630 is recommended for all kinds of non-polar alkyd systems; non-pigmented and pigmented, medium to long oil alkyds, and high-solid alkyds.
