Russian state-owned diamond company Alrosa, together with its affiliates, plan to export nearly 36 million carats of rough diamonds in the 2014 calendar year, Rough and Polished reports. With the permission of the federal government, Alrosa itself will export 21.34 million carats worth $3.184 billion, Alrosa Nyurba will export 7.9 million carats worth $724 million, Almazy Anabara will export 3.31 million carats worth $346.2 million, Severalmaz will export 800,000 carats worth $55 million and Nizhne-Lenskoye will export 2.5 million carats worth $355 million, for an Alrosa group total of 35.86 million carats.
These prices, however, are assessed on the basis of Russian Finance Ministry prices, which can be even a third lower than regular market prices. Diamonds mined in Russia are not expected to be sold in any great quantities at present, or even in the near-to-middle future, according to Rough and Polished.
