Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Corp. at 717 Plantation St. has been assessed $6,900 in penalties by the state Department of Environmental Protection for hazardous waste violations.
According to the DEP, a routine inspection in 2012 determined the company had accumulated hazardous waste for longer than the time allowed under its registered generator status.
As part of a consent order with the DEP, the company will bay a $1,730 penalty and perform a supplemental environmental project. The project will include the purchase of four iPads for the Fire Department. The tablets will allow first responders to access a chemical database website while in the field, and will be able to provide them with detailed chemical data sheets within seconds, according to the DEP.
