Turkey's finished steel output and usage rise in 2013

In 2013, Turkey's finished steel output increased by 6.2 percent to 36.4 million metric tons, in line with the increase in the country's semi-finished product imports during the year in question, according to a report released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). In the given year, Turkey's long product output increased by 5.1 percent to 26.53 million metric tons, while its flat product output rose by 9.2 percent to 9.86 million metric tons, both compared with 2012. Meanwhile, 72.9 percent of the total finished steel output consisted of long products and 27.1 percent was accounted for by flat products.
On the other hand, in 2013 Turkey's finished steel consumption increased by 10 percent to 31.3 million metric tons, while consumption of long products rose by 12.3 percent to 16.67 million metric tons and flat product consumption increased by 7.4 percent to 14.63 million metric tons, all year on year. In 2013, 53.3 percent of total domestic finished steel consumption was for long products and 46.7 percent was accounted for by flat products.
