Mining Weekly reports that Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe Arthur Mutambara stated on Friday that China should invest more in Zimbabwe rather than only use it for raw materials and minerals such as diamonds.
According to Mutambara, though Zimbabwe is rich with resources, particularly minerals and diamonds, it remains a poor nation, and Chinese investments could change that and benefit both countries.
In a visit to China, Mutambara stated that Zimbabwe will discontinue its production of diamonds, minerals and other raw materials for China until China agrees to its terms.
In the past, Zimbabwe has called on Chinese mining companies to invest in the field of diamonds and minerals. Meanwhile, Mutambara added that his government wants China to invest in automobile and computer factories. Zimbabwe wishes to use China's capital in order to invest in agriculture and solve the problem of unemployment in the country, which has reached 90%.
