Polysilicon continues on the price uptrend this week. Although downstream solar components face increasing price cut pressure, polysilicon price remains robust under solid demand with high utilization from solar companies. In addition, Chinese domestic polysilicon players have raised their prices to over 160RMB/kg. The Chinese polysilicon price uptrend also drives up overall polysilicon pricing.

Solar modules continue on the price downtrend this week. Chinese module makers are cutting prices worldwide as sales performance is lower than expected in Jan and Feb. In Japan, some module makers are clearing inventory as the fiscal year is ending in the country. In addition, Japanese system developers demand lower module prices pressuring overall module level in Japan. Therefore, overall module price drop this week.

Solar cell price remains stable this week under price cut pressure from modules. In China, lower than expected module sales in Jan and Feb imposes increasing demand and price cut pressure on Chinese cell companies. On the other hand, cell demand in Taiwan remains fairly robust in Mar and Apr. Due to the US antidumping investigation against Taiwanese cells, Chinese module companies place Taiwanese cell orders in advance to assemble module for US export before Jun when the US is expected to announce antidumping ruling on the case. Despite robust demand, Taiwanese cell price remains stable with downstream price cut pressure. Some Taiwanese cell companies choose to secure orders by maintaining stable pricing. Therefore, overall cell price remain stable this week.

Multi and mono wafer price also remains stable this week. In China, wafer companies face increasing price cut pressure from the downstream. Although polysilicon price has been increasing dramatically, with uncertain Chinese domestic demand, Chinese wafer price remain stable. On the other hand, wafer companies in Taiwan continue raising quote prices. However, Taiwanese cell companies are more cautious in placing orders. As a result, wafer pricing is flat this week.
