SAIL RMD to raise iron ore mines raise capacity to 39 million tonnes

SAIL's mining outfit Raw Materials Division is working on modernisation and expansion of its mines in the eastern region of the country to meet the demand of its various steel plants.
Mr G Mohan Kumar secretary, ministry of steel has said that “The iron ore mines of SAIL will jack up production to 39 million tonne per annum in step with SAIL's mega expansion plan to produce over 23.6 million tonne per annum of Hot Metal by 2015 to 2016 from the present capacity of 14.3 million tonne per annum.”
Post expansion, the capacity of RMD's existing mines at Kiriburu, Meghahatuburu and Bolani would gpo up to 5.5,6.5 and 10 million tonne per annum from the present level of 4.2,4.3 and 4.1 million tonne per annum respectively.
Mr Mohan Kumar who was on a 2 day maiden visit to SAIL's iron ore mines at Kiriburu, Meghahatuburu and Bolani said that “The job for the most of the packages of these projects has already been awarded and is likely to be completed by 2014 to 2015.”
SAIL's Gua Ore Mines will also be developed upto 10 million tonne per annum along with beneficiation and pelletisation facilities. Presently Gua Ore Mines have crushing, screening, conveying and wagon loading facility capable of dealing with 2.4 million tonne per annum of run on mines.
As part of the expansion, new facilities are being created which will increase the mine capacity to 10 million tonne per annum along with beneficiation and pelletisation facility.�
