SunEdison is teaming with the Global Academy of Technology (GAT) based in Bangalore to create a research and development facility at the college's Bengaluru campus.

The major PV energy provider will collaborate with GAT to improve technology for solar water pumps, energy storage solutions, hybrid energy systems and PV power plant monitoring and mounting structures.

D.K. Shiva Kumar, minister of power for Karnataka and chairman of the National Education Foundation said: "Having the SunEdison R&D facility at GAT provides our students the opportunity to extend their academic experience into industry. They'll be conducting research with scientists and engineers from one of the world's leading solar companies giving them a unique experience that will prepare them for successful careers."

“By placing students side by side with industry leaders their education will extend beyond theoretical application of concepts to real-world implementations," said Pashupathy Gopalan, president, SunEdison, Asia Pacific, GCC and South Africa.

The facility, which will also support SunEdison’s commitment to supporting education and developing the next-generation of PV professionals, was inaugurated at an event attended by senior members of India's government.
