The 4th Cross-strait Trade and Economic Cooperation and Development Forum Held in Xiamen

The 4th Cross-strait Trade and Economic Cooperation and Development Forum, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, opened in Xiamen, in the afternoon on September 8, 2009. The Forum invited celebrities in academic and business circles to conduct in-depth discussion based on the theme "Establish Economic Cooperation Mechanism and Realize All-win". Liang Guoyang, NPC Standing Committee member and Chairman of All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, attended the Forum.
Deputy Minister of Commerce Jiang Zengwei attended the Forum and delivered a speech. Jiang said, as Peace and Development becomes the theme of cross-strait relations and international financial crisis persists, this Forum is a cross-strait top talk and discussion of massive practical significance. Jiang pointed out that, the closer cross-strait trade relations needs new breakthrough in cross-strait economic cooperation mechanism. The establishment of this kind cooperative mechanism is conducive to the common development of both sides, and conducive for the two sides to together cope with the current international financial crisis. He appealed that, facing the common opportunities and challenges, the two sides should unite together and deepen cooperation.
Jiang said, recently, disturbances have been made in Taiwan, which has caused negative influence on cross-strait relations, and is disadvantageous to the steady and healthy development of cross-strait trade relations. He hopes that the two sides should treasure the hard-won peaceful and developing cross-strait relations, and join efforts to counteract the adverse influence as soon as possible.
Jiang reiterated that, whenever Taiwan compatriots are in need, the Ministry of Commerce will, to the best of its ability, provide reconstruction assistance to disaster area.
Commercial associations, including Taiwan Federation of Industries, Taiwan Textile Federation, Taiwan Association of Industry and Commerce, Council for Industrial and Commercial Development, and academic institutions, including Institution for Economic Research, Taiwan Textile Research Institute, Commerce Development Research Institute attended the Forum.
Total 400 people from various circles of the two sides took part in the Forum.
