New Brunswick’s Green Party says it is throwing support behind a request for a minimum 10 year moratorium on shale gas exploration in the province.
The New Brunswick Anti-Shale Gas Alliance held a news conference calling for the moratorium..They want to hear the views and gain more support from all political parties, before the next provincial election.
Leader David Coon says, “The Green Party’s position of course is for an absolute ban on shale gas extraction. This is not the road we should do down. It requires turning rural New Brunswick into a sacrifice zone, and that’s not acceptable to us. It’s not right.”
The Conservative Government has made it very clear that it intends to go ahead with shale gas exploration in the province, because it will mean much needed jobs for New Brunswick..
The New Brunswick Anti-shale gas says more research needs to be done, and 10 years should be enough time to help them better understand the industries environmental impacts.
