Net Polished Diamond Exports in India drop to $484m

Idex reports that net polished diamond exports in India totaled at $484.49 million in August, compared to some $824 million in net polished diamond exports in August 2008. Meanwhile, India exported $90.72 million worth of rough diamonds.
The scope of net polished diamond exports fell 41.3% compared to 2008 due to the shrinking demand for diamonds in the United States.
India also saw a significant fall in rough diamond import in August, with only $430.81 million worth of rough diamonds coming into the country. India imported 6.52 million carats of diamonds compared to 9.42 million carts in 2008.
According to the Gem & Jewelry Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), India exported some 3.7 million carats of polished diamonds at $293 per carat in average.
