Major photovoltaics energy provider, SunEdison, has claimed to have reached a new milestone by hitting 1GW of outsourced PV module production in less than three years.

The company announced in January 2013 that it had previously hit the millionth module production mark with its branded ‘Silvantis’ series modules with major outsourcing partner, Flextronics at its facility in Johor, Malaysia.

SunEdison has been leveraging its in-house polysilicon and solar wafer production capacity to ink outsourcing deals in solar cell production through to module assembly.

"Our focus on delivering the most advanced, lowest cost solar modules, in the most capex efficient way, is unwavering."

However, a recent announcement from SunEdison and management commentary on a major fully integrated JV manufacturing partnership in Saudi Arabia at a cost of US$6.4 billion, hints at the company requiring in-house production as well as outsourced production to meet aggressive downstream PV project pipeline expansion plans in the coming years.
