Indian steel production dropped in August, but consumption increased

Source from the well-informed insiders noted that thanks to the steel-consuming industries such as automobile and Consumer Durables, Indian steel consumption in August reached 4.6mln tons, up 4% over 4.4mln tons in the same period last year.
Although Indian produced 4.7mln tons of steel in August, down 1% from 4.74mln tons in a year earlier, some major steelmakers in India all improved the output.
Take Tata for an example, the hot metals production from the company lifted 15% in August to 597,000 tons, while it was 518,000 tons in the same period last year. Tata' s crude steel output in August stood at 552,000 tons, boosted 16% from 474,000 tons in the same period last year. The steel output of Tata available to sell was 526,000 tons, up 14% year on year.
The crude steel output of Jindal Iron and Steel located in Bombay reached 521,000 tons in August, up 53% over 341,000 tons in a year earlier, which indicated that the No.3 blast furnace of Jindal Vijayanagar mill put into production on Sep. 8.
It is learned that steel bar and rod mills of Jindal Vijayanagar started into production recently and the plant' s long products output increased 159% year on year to 74,000 tons.
