The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is to present the much anticipated DiamondCheck machine to the London Diamond Bourse (LDB) during a seminar for members and industry professionals.
The opportunity to host this event was made possible through the LDB's affiliation with the World Federation of Diamond Bourses and the bourse is very proud to have been selected by the GIA to be their preferred stage for the U.K.'s launch of this brand new DiamondCheck machine.
The industry is in agreement that there are two critical elements when it comes to synthetics: detection and disclosure. The DiamondCheck technology will help prevent synthetic diamonds from entering the market as natural diamonds through easier detection, and it will help maintain consumer confidence, which is an urgent requirement to the industry worldwide.
The seminar will take place on May 22 at 3 p.m., with guest speakers Tom Moses (GIA's executive vice president), and Dr Ulrika D’Haenens-Johansson (GIA's research scientist). The presentation will last approximately one hour with a question and answer session will follow.
Due to the national importance of this event and in an unprecedented move, the LDB is inviting those who would like to attend the seminar to register through the email address info-at-londondiamondbourse.com. Space is limited and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis and are subject to our full and strenuous security procedures.
Moses, was named GIA's executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer in November 2013, is an integral part of the GIA’s gem identification and research efforts. He earned his graduate gemologist degree from the GIA in 1976 and began his career at its labs in 1977.
The GIA DiamondCheck™ is intended to examine colorless stones in the D-to-N range. It identifies natural, untreated diamonds and refers stones for further analysis if they may be treated or synthetic. The system will be made available at no cost to diamond bourses around the world as part of GIA’s public benefit mission.
