At the recent global MACH 2014 manufacturing technology exhibition in Birmingham, England, Metal Working Production magazine awarded Fritz Studer AG the gold medal in the "Best Grinding/Finishing Equipment" category for the S11 production cylindrical grinding machine. In conjunction with the exhibition, the manufacturing trade publication presents its MWP Advanced Manufacturing Awards for innovative products in every aspect of metalworking engineering and production.
The S11 received the recognition because it combines high precision and productivity with space-conserving size. The machine occupies just 71 in2 (1.8 m2) of floor space and is engineered for grinding workpieces up to 7.9" (200 mm) in length, 2" (50 mm) in diameter and 6.6 lbs (3 kg) in weight. Featuring a high-performance wheelhead with a 19.7” (500mm)-diameter grinding wheel, the S11 possesses precision linear guideway systems, a rigid tailstock, and a Granitan S102 base that offers excellent vibration dampening and thermal stability.
Hans Ueltschi, vice president of cylindrical sales for United Grinding North America, Inc., said, “Fritz Studer AG and its UNITED GRINDING parent company are honored that the innovative S11 grinder has been recognized with this prestigious international award. The machine is representative of the precision and quality provided by all the grinding solutions offered by the UNITED GRINDING group of companies.”
