Essar Steel announced that it has bagged an order for the supply of pipes for one of the most prestigious projects of the Gujarat government, for water management of the Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI) Yojana.

Of the 586,000 tonnes of pipes required for the project, Essar Steel will supply 120,000 tonnes of HSAW (Helical Submerged Arc Welding) pipes, which are 12 meter long and 120 inches in diameter. The order will be executed over a period of one year. Essar Steel has an annual production capacity of 275,000 tonne of HSAW pipes.

Under SAUNI program, the water of Narmada river will be distributed to 115 reservoirs across seven districts of Saurashtra through 4 linked pipelines benefitting 10,22,589 acres. This project is estimated to cost INR 10,800 crore.
