Taiwan's machine tool exports rose in June due to strong demand from Turkey and Germany, a local industry group said Saturday.
Amid the warming global economy, exports of Taiwan-made machine tools totaled US$352.15 million last month, up 8.1 percent from the previous month and 13.2 percent from a year ago, the Taichung-based Taiwan Machine Tool and Accessory Builders' Association said, citing preliminary statistics.
Exports to Turkey saw the sharpest monthly increase at 43.3 percent, with shipments amounting to US$19.25 million last month. Those to Germany also saw strong monthly growth of 20 percent to total US$10.86 million, the group said.
Shipments to major trade partner China rose by 3.5 percent month-on-month to US$135.08 million in June. The exports to China were significant as they accounted for 33.2 percent of Taiwan's total machine tool exports.
During the first six months of the year, Taiwan's machine tool exports worldwide totaled US$1.81 billion, a 4.9 percent increase over the same period in 2013, statistics showed.
