Cylindrical Grinder Provides Flexibility for Small Parts

Hardinge says that its Usach 75 CNC cylindrical grinder delivers accuracy and power in a compact design for production and universal small parts manufacturing that requires ID, OD and face grinding. Designed for precision and flexibility for job shops as well as high-production applications, the grinder offers an 8.5" swing diameter and can handle parts as long as 5". To maximize production, the machine can be configured with one or two grinding spindles. High, dynamic axis speeds and short travel distances between parts and dressing position further improve productivity and accuracy, the company says.
An ergonomic design is said to ease setup, maintenance and manual loading/unloading. The base is made of Harcrete for dynamic stability, high-precision tolerances and fine surface finishes. The longitudinal slide (Z axis) is fully protected on monorail-style linear guideways with rollers to accommodate the X axis, and the cross slide (X axis) has the same protection to accommodate the grinding spindle. Both slides are driven by AC servomotors and ballscrews. A low-pressure air purge system and labyrinth seal prevent coolant from contaminating the spindle bearings.
The grinder is available with either a FANUC 32i or Mitsubishi M70V control, as well as a fully integrated automation and parts handling system.
