According to Steel Ministry’s Joint Plant Committee’s latest release, India's steel consumption grew by 0.3%YoY in April to August 2014 to 31.16 million tonnes, monthly average of 6.232 million tonnes, as compared to 31.06 million tonnes in April to August 2013, monthly average of 6.212 million tonnes

Production

Grew by 0.9% YoY to 36.17 million tonnes from 35.84 million tonnes last year

Imports

Surged by 20.7% YoY to 3.01 million tonnes from 2.5 million tonnes last year

Exports

Increased by 8.8% YoY to 2.34 million tonnes from 2.15 million tonnes last year

Incidentally, India had logged its four year low steel consumption in 2013-14, clocking 0.3% growth at 73.93 million tonnes
