TATA Steel to begin stage wise commissioning of Phase I in Odisha

The Hindu reported that TATA Steel expects to begin the stage-wise commissioning of the first phase of the 6 million tonnes green-field project in Orissa’s Kalinganagar district towards the end of this fiscal.
The units which are getting ready for commissioning are power generation, coke oven, sinter plant, blast furnace, steel melting shop and hot strip mils.
The company said that “Work is on in full swing and INR 8000 crores was spent in 2013-14,” adding that the 4330 cubic metre capacity blast furnace at Kalinganagar will roll out high-end flat products.
Subsequent to the commissioning and ramp up of the first phase, TATA Steel will start implementation of the second phase of the flat products plant whose total capacity would be 6 million tonnes.
