Bloombrg reports that London fine jeweler Laurence Graff of Graff Diamonds will hold an auction on October 12, which will include paintings by artists such as Damien Hirst, Raqib Shaw and Marc Quinn, who have donated their works, as well as diamond jewelry. Graff intends to raise $1.26 million for children in Africa in the auction, which is scheduled as part of Christie’s International’s “Frieze Week” events in London.
Graff set up FACET (For Africa’s Children Every Time) last year, with the aim of raising funds to improve the living conditions of children in Africa, which is where most of the diamonds that Graff Diamonds sells comes from.
Items to be sold at the charity auction include a pair of diamond earrings donated by Graff himself, a green plastic “Orgone” chair by Australian designer Marc Newson, a 1964 Dennis Hopper photograph of actor Paul Newman and a 2009 David LaChapelle digital print of Michael Jackson.
