A marble statue of a nude boy widely attributed to Michelangelo is being loaned to New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art by the French government.
The "Young Archer" is not travelling far. It is making its way across Fifth Avenue from the Payne Whitney Mansion. The Stanford White-designed building has served as the cultural services office of the French Embassy since 1952.
The statue has graced its rotunda since the early 1900s, when the mansion was built.
The statue of the young boy with missing arms and lower legs will go on display on Nov. 3. It was first attributed as an early work of Michelangelo in 1997.
The Met will provide the mansion a reproduction during the 10-year loan period.
