Venezuela's CVG-Bauxilum alumina sales totaled 68,097 mt in October, up 127% on sales of 29,981 mt in October 2014, Bauxilum said Friday.
October alumina sales figures were also up 56% on sales of 43,783 mt in September.
Of October sales, 24,066 mt were domestic sales and 44,031 mt were export sales to Glencore International AG.
Though total sales are higher, the Puerto Ordaz plant's second production line has been stopped several times in recent months since being reactivated, leading to a decline in expected alumina production.
An investment of $211 million, derived from the $5 billion China-Venezuelan Fund, is the next step in repairing the second production line so it can work together with the first production line on a constant basis, according to a Bauxilum official.
October bauxite sales from Bauxilum's Pijiguaos mine totaled 2,647 mt, up 78% from 1,491 mt in October 2013. October sales were down 55% from 5,835 mt in September. All bauxite sales were to Venezolana de Cementos and none were to longstanding client Ferralca, downstream aluminum company, according to a Bauxilum official.
There were no bauxite export sales.
Bauxilum forms part of the Corporacion Venezolana de Guayana's (CVG) 600,000 mt/year primary aluminum complex in Puerto Ordaz, Bolivar state.
