Mexico's industrial production dropped 7.3 percent in August compared to the same month last year, the National Statistics Agency said.
According to the agency, the drop was mainly driven by a fall in the sectors of manufacturing and construction, slumping 10.8 percent and 7.8 percent respectively.
The country's industrial production in August dropped 0.22 percent from that in July, with manufacturing sliding 1.33 percent and construction dropping 1.89 percent.
Mexico slipped into recession at the end of 2008 as its biggest export partner, the United States, entered the most destructive phase of its credit crisis. The Mexican economy shrank 10.3 percent in the second quarter of this year compared to a year earlier.
