The San Bernardino County Planning Commission on a 3-2 vote Thursday approved a 3-megawatt solar photovoltaic generating facility in Landers.

The project will occupy 35 acres east of Bowman Trail, south of Hermans Road, north of Summers Road and west of Sunny Vista Road.

The sPower-designed solar farm’s output will provide electrical power for the equivalent of roughly 900 homes, according to industry sources.

First District Commissioner Randy Coleman — whose district encompasses the Victor Valley — and 3rd District Commissioner Paul Smith, who represents High Desert areas including Landers, voted no.
