Turkish steel imports in 11 months dip by 8% YoY

According to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in the first 11 months of 2014, Turkey's steel imports decreased by 7.9 percent to 12.37 million tonnes, while the value of these imports fell 6.6 percent to USD 10.86 billion
In the given period, Turkey's billet imports totalled 2.6 million tonnes, down five percent, its slab imports decreased by 21.9 percent to 1.58 million tonnes, while its flat steel imports totaled 6.06 million tonnes, down 7.7 percent, long steel imports amounted to 1.35 million tonnes, up 1.5 percent, and steel pipe imports decreased by 3.5 percent to 394,000 tonnes, all on year-on-year basis.
On the other hand, in November alone, Turkey's steel imports decreased by 14.2 percent year on year to 1.17 million tonnes, while the value of these imports totaled USD 996 million, up 13 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the given month, Turkey's billet imports increased by 44.2 percent to 170,000 tonnes, while its slab imports rose by 2.1 percent to 281,000 tonnes , both year on year. Also in November this year, Turkey's flat steel imports decreased by 8.9 percent to 520,000 tonnes, its long steel imports moved down by 13.8 percent to 124,000 tonnes, and steel pipe imports totaled 37,000 tonnes, up 6.5 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
