Effective today, all bauxite entrepreneurs in the state will be allowed to use the Jalan Gebeng-Bypass only to carry bauxite and iron ore to the port.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said this was decided after discussing with the 106 entrepreneurs concerned yesterday to tackle the issue on bauxite-carrying lorries dirtying the road around the port and Gebeng industrial areas.
This was among the resolutions agreed to and the entrepreneurs gave positive feedback, he told reporters after the closed-door meeting at Yayasan Pahang here.
He said the state government would also give a two-month grace period for the entrepreneurs to remove and empty the seven bauxite storage areas so that there would no longer be any more such storage areas in the port and Gebeng areas.
He said the entrepreneurs were asked to look for their bauxite and iron ore storage areas outside the port and Gebeng areas while the state government would also look for areas to store the goods for them.
He said the Kuantan Municipal Council would clean up the dirty roads at a cost of about RM130,000 to be borne by the entrepreneurs.
"The cleaning work is expected to take two weeks to complete," he said, adding new conditions which were rather strict would be enforced.
