The Wear of Diamond Circular Saw Blades - Forms

Post Date: 02 Mar 2009    Viewed: 834
Abrasion of the Diamonds: As the constant friction between the diamonds and the work piece, the diamonds' edges are gradually ground into planes, and then lose their cutting performance. Moreover, the heat coming from cutting may cause a thin layer of graphitization on the surfaces of diamond particles, and then the diamonds' hardness will be greatly decreased. This aggravates the abrasion.

The Diamonds' Partial Crush: The surface of diamond particles will withstand the alternating heat stress, as well as the alternating cutting stress. These will cause fatigue cracks on the diamond particles, and then lead to their partial crushes and then the new sharp edges. This is in fact a good situation, for the new edges can be used for next cuttings.

The Diamonds' Crush to a Great Extent: The diamond particles will withstand the impact load when the blades are cutting in or out. The more prominent particles or the defective particles will be crushed to a great extent because of their disadvantaged positions and the impact effect. Then these diamond particles are consumed early, and can not play their roles.

The Diamonds' Falling Off: The alternating cutting forces cause the diamond particles in the bond to shake constantly and then loose. At the same time, there will be the bond's abrasion and softening because of the heat in the process of cutting. These will reduce the bond's hold to the diamonds. When the cutting force on the diamond particles is larger than the bond's hold, the diamond particles will fall off.

Mechanical Abrasion of The Bond: The bond of the blade's segments will be consumed when cutting. This consumption will allow new diamond particles to become exposed on the surface to continue cutting with a sharp edge. The important thing is matching a right bond to the materials to be cut.

All kinds of the wear are closely related to the load and temperature which the diamond blades withstand, and the load and temperature depend on the cutting technique and cooling and lubrication conditions.
