Shigiya has upgraded its GPV-10-20 vertical CNC grinder to include the same polygon grinding capability used in the company’s larger GPES series with an updated direct-drive motor. Including a workhead powered by a direct-drive motor, the GPV-10-20 is said to grind small workpieces with greater precision and control than a belt-driven grinder. A gate structure ensures accuracy by countering vibration, thermal displacement and noise. A top beam securely connects the upper portion of the two columns, promoting rigidity for extreme precision after a cold start and even during post-process grinding.

Contributing to machine accuracy is Shigiya’s nonconcentric, hydrodynamic bearing for the wheel spindle. Mounted on the wheel side of the wheelhead, this bearing maintains low processing heat by optimizing the bearing clearance and the wedge angle. In feed is performed by the table moving toward the wheel. The GPV-10-20 includes a swing over table of 100 mm (3.93"), a maximum workpiece height of 200 mm (7.87") and a weight capacity of 10 kg (22.05 lbs).

A wide machine opening enables flexible loading/unloading automation and eases maintenance. An electrical control panel hinged on the rear of the machine swings open wide to ensure enough working space for wheel changes. The grinding wheel is not angled and so does not require a wheel changer. The grinder control panel can be mounted on the left or the right side of the machine to ease automation in tight spaces.
