A new generation of ceramic belts are designed to give up to a 200% increase in performance versus existing ceramic designs. Saint Gobain Abrasives has launched a new generation of ceramic belts - the Norton R980 range - designed to give up to a 200% increase in performance versus existing ceramic designs. The belts, which use a new generation of SG ceramic abrasive are suitable for roughing and semi-finishing applications and last up to twice as long as the best competitive ceramic belts currently on the market. http://www.engineeringtalk.com/ They also have a faster cut, even at medium grinding pressures. The Norton R980 range can be used to grind a variety of materials including high nickel alloys, super alloys, cobalt chrome, titanium and stainless steel and the new "supersize grinding aid" enables a cooler cut when compared with existing ceramic belt designs. A new resin bond system also extends the life of the belt. Howard Prince at Saint Gobain Abrasives said: "The Norton R980 is a perfect example of our commitment to developing revolutionary products that perform better and last longer". "The range has been specifically designed to give a faster and cooler cut and yet last between 50 and 200% longer". "It is ideal for aerospace and land turbine grinding, foundry parts, tool grinding and stainless steel and weld grinding". In a recent test with an industrial gas turbine manufacturer the SG R980 produced a 366% improvement on the number of parts ground without burn compared with a competitor product. Similarly, a test for a prosthetic knee manufacturer delivered a 156% improvement on the number of parts ground without breakage. The Norton R980 range comes in grit sizes 24, 36, 40, 50, 60 and 80 grit. Belts are available in a variety of widths up to 1320mm wide.
